dang dude, that was a complete failure of that hose being... a hose. Not a crack, hole, or dry rot. That thing just said fuck it! i don't want to live in this world anymore!

Of course it's leaking! The hose should go ON THE RADIATOR, not in your hand!

I was 72 miles out of town when it failed, otherwise I would have probably attempted a patch. I definitely didn't have enough coolant or materials to make that repair, definitely time to add coolant to my trunk of emergency parts/repair materials.

Gosh, how could I have been so stupid?
This hose runs from the engine to a pipe that runs to a hose to the front of the car that runs to the radiator.

Oh, that hose! (I act as if I ever touched an MR2, but I imagine it's part of the complex system that cools the mid-engine with the radiator being in the front)
How the hell did it explode like this?

How old was that hose? As mentioned, that's a total failure. I'm not even sure how something like that happens.
That's more like a water main break than a leak

Your guess is absolutely as good as mine. I would imagine old age or dry rot, or a combination of both. I wasn't driving the car hard when it failed, just cruising at highway speed.

~22 years old, about. I'll be replacing the entire set, and completely refilling and flushing my coolant system. My water pump tested fine, and the thermostat is new.
I would agree it's a massive failure, calling it a leak is definitely tongue in cheek.

lol yup. i got a gallon of coolant, qrt or Mobil 1, and ATF in every car..... snatched from work of course lol :]

I always had oil, and a ratchet set as well as some lithium grease.
